Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center Welcomes New Assistant Health Director

The Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center is excited to announce the hiring of a new Assistant Health Director.


Mariah Austin (Bimosekwe) earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Systems Administration with a minor in Human Resources from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. She went on to obtain a Master of Science in Administration with a concentration in Health Services from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.


Mariah brings years of experience in accreditation, compliance, quality improvement, as well as Indian Health Service programs and functions. Mariah not only has professional healthcare experience, but she also has lived experience from navigating various health systems as a caregiver for loved ones. Mariah worked for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe’s Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center in health administration as the Accreditation/Quality Assurance Specialist for five years before joining Gun Lake Tribe. Over the past three years Mariah has worked as the Assistant Health & Human Services Director and Health & Human Services Director at the Gun Lake Tribe. Mariah also completed an internship at Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center in Finance/HR while earning her undergraduate degree.


Mariah was born and raised in Holland, Michigan but spent her early years and many summers with relatives in Round Lake. She is the great-granddaughter of Mary Frogg and the granddaughter of Marlene Nayquonabe. She enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, attending concerts, sewing, and most of all spending time with her son, Mavrick (Giiwedin), family, and friends.
