Elder Services Hires Rose Gokee as Dementia Care Specialist

Terrance Manuelito

LCO Tribal Aging Services Director

LCO Tribal Veteran Service Officer

I would like to share some information regarding some recent hires within our department, I would very much like to welcome Rose Gokee as our (DCS) Dementia Care Specialist, this position was posted over a year ago and we are fortunate to have her here advocating and providing awareness to the community in the Dementia and Alzheimer’s field, she will be receiving training and assistance to provide services to our clients. I would also like to add that we are in the process of hiring a new (TADRS) Tribal Aging & Disability Resource Specialist, I will post more information when it is finalized. Both positions have been vacant for some time now, and I am excited to have new staff that are vital to providing direct services to our community.

It is my hope that we will be able to return to some sort of normalcy sooner, rather than later, I am pleased to announce that the majority of our department staff have received both Covid-19 vaccinations, and hopefully that will mean getting back to congregate meals being served, trips for our elders and GLNAEA meetings (there was a recent announcement from Wes Martin, GLNAEA Chairman that with hopes of tribal elders receiving vaccinations by late spring that Carter, WI will be able to host the next meeting in June of 2021). We will know more information hopefully within the coming months.

Miigwech for taking the time in reading this and please do not hesitate to reach me by phone or email and I will attempt to assist with any matter or concern you may have, 715 957-0077, Terrance.Manuelito@lco-nsn.gov

NEW TRIBAL DEMENTIA CARE SPECIALIST

Rose Gokee

I am happy to report that I have been hired as the Tribal Dementia Care Specialist (“DCS”) with the effective date of March 1, 2021. My office is located out of the Elder Services Building located in Reserve. My personal experience with family impacted by dementia, along with my desire to provide services to the tribal community, is the driving force behind my decision to apply for the DCS position. I am excited to learn and begin the work to create an awareness about Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, to gather and provide information to those individuals and families impacted, and to build a Dementia Friendly Community. I have a busy schedule ahead of me with DCS Program Orientation and training, as well as attending meetings via Zoom regarding Dementia Care. I welcome any questions, or requests for information regarding Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease and may be contacted directly at (715) 558-7944 or via email at rosalie.gokee@lco-nsn.gov. I am honored to serve the tribe in this capacity.
