WOJB-FM and Nelson Lumber host an evening with acclaimed Americana / Folk singer-songwriters Pieta Brown and special guest Rachael Kilgour Saturday, April 27 to The PARK Center, 15791 US 63, Hayward WI.

Pieta Brown is recognized as one of modern Americana’s true gems. In recent years Pieta has released multiple highly critically acclaimed albums – with much attention being paid not only to her distinct sound and style, but also the power of her singing and songwriting – including fan favorite, 2014’s Paradise Outlaw, which Justin Vernon of Bon Iver called his “favorite recording made at our [April Base] Studio.”
The daughter of beloved Midwestern folk singer/songwriter Greg Brown, Pieta has recorded and toured with Mark Knopfler, John Prine, Amos Lee, Brandi Carlisle, JJ Cale, Ani DiFranco, Mavis Staples, and Calexico, among others. She has co-written songs with and made guest appearances with Calexico, Amos Lee, and Iris DeMent, and was a co-producer on DeMent’s 2023 album Workin’ On A World.
With the release of her most recent full-length album, 2019’s Freeway on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records label – as well as experimental collaborations with JT Bates (Taylor Swift, Anais Mitchell), S. Carey (Bon Iver), CARM (Paul Simon, Bon Iver), and Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) – Pieta Brown’s music and artistry continue to rise.

About special guest artist Rachael Kilgour – Like her father, Rachael Kilgour is a hard worker. She comes by her considerable skills honestly, honing her craft over the past decade in listening rooms, festivals, concert halls, and recording studios, and picking up accolades along the way.
Created during the period of time spanning her father's dementia diagnosis, his death, and its immediate aftermath, the songs that would become Kilgour's latest work, the 2023 album My Father Loved Me were a way for her to keep pace with her shapeshifting grief.
Kilgour first attained notoriety outside her native Duluth, MN as the grand prize winner of the 2015 international NewSong Music Performance & Songwriting Competition and winner of the 2017 Kerrville New Folk Contest. She has been a featured performer at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center and at the Sundance Film Festival.
Kilgour’s oft-noted “unapologetic lyrics” (Rolling Stone) and “masterfully crafted indie folk” sensibilities (Billboard) are on full display in her latest collection of songs, My Father Loved Me.
