Taylor/Lapointe Team Wins Legends of the North Scramble

The Legends of the North 2-Man Scramble was held over the weekend of Sept. 19 and 20th at Big Fish Golf Club. Twenty teams participated and cashed in on nearly $3,000 spread out over three flights. Players came from near and far.

It was a local team of Joe Taylor and William LaPointe who won the first flight championship narrowly defeating local Big Fish members Logan Jacobs and Zach Preston. Taylor/LaPointe held a 5-stroke lead going into Round Two on Sunday but Jacobs/Preston closed the gap in the first nine eliminating the lead. In the back nine, Taylor/LaPointe held on to win by three strokes. Third place went to the team of Miller/Johnson.

The 2nd flight champions were the team of Don Rosin and Jay Blackdeer while local guys George Taylor and Bill Taylor captured second place. Benjamin and Troy Rudesill took third place.

In the 3rd flight, the St. Croix team of Mike Belisle and Perry Staples won a tie breaker over the team of Tim Swenson and Keith Mell. Finishing third was St. Croix team Steve and Taylor Lowe.

Teams came from as far as Oneida Nation (Green Bay) and Leech Lake, MN.

Tournament Director Joe Morey said the weather and course conditions couldn’t have been better for two days of golf. He thanked Indy Thompson, course manager. The Legends Golf Tournaments have already booked the last weekend in June and the third weekend in September of 2021 for another scramble and a 2-day individual stroke play.

“Thank you to all the players who brought their a-game and made this tournament a huge success,” Morey said. “Looking forward to another great weekend next year.”

Morey also thanked all the sponsors who added money and prizes to the tournament. They include Coop’s Pizza, La Tequila Mexican Restaurant, Woodstone, Inc., LCO Country Store, River Street Restaurant, LCO Quick Stop, LCO Convenience Store, Northern Lakes Hardware and Lynn’s Country Meats.
