Thursday, Jan. 10, Vice-Chair Jason Schlender was voted to remain in the position as Chairman of the GLIFWC Voigt Inter-Tribal Taskforce. This committee consists of 10 members and the chair. The VITF recommends policy regarding inland harvest seasons, resource management issues and budgetary matters to the Board of Commissioners.
The VITF addresses matters that affect the treaty rights of the member tribes in the 1837 and 1842 Treaty ceded territories. They also recommend harvest seasons and regulations for each inland season, and those recommendations are then taken to the respective tribal councils for ratification prior to becoming an ordinance.
Some of Schlender's duties as chair are to preside over all meetings of the committee, perform all duties of a chair, exercise any authority delegated by the committee and have authority to sign all documents for the committee.
