After multiple posts on Facebook from residents of several communities on the LCO Reservation about a rash of overnight vehicle break-ins, the LCO Police Chief said community members should be aware of the incidents and take precautions.

“Lock up your vehicles at night and don’t leave anything of value in them,” said Chief Tim DeBrot. “If you leave valuables in the cars and they see it, they will take out the windows to gain entry.”

DeBrot said these break-ins have always been happening, but there is a small uptick. He said if community members take these simple precautions, it will cut down on the break-ins.

“People need money and this is a simple way to get it,” DeBrot said. “They will take the items and sell them for cheap. We’ve even had people leave guns in their vehicles during hunting season and they will break in and take them. In some cases we do have an idea who is doing it, but proving it has been the hard part.”

Chief DeBrot said the recent curfew has helped with these break-ins as they haven’t seen as many young people out late at night. He said the curfew was only for 90 days but that the TGB can extend it as needed.

Chief DeBrot also asks that if anyone can provide video, they should.
