American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Sawyer County Raises $54,000

Submitted Press Release

Co-Chairs Joan Ackerman and Kym Kirk announced the conclusion of the 2023 Campaign of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sawyer County.  Ackerman and Kirk were thrilled to announce that through all of the Relay events, generous sponsorships and donations, the campaign raised over $54,146.00 in the fight against cancer!    Kirk advised that the 2023 fundraising amount exceeded last year’s total by almost $10,000.  Kirk also thanked everyone for their role in helping fight cancer. Ackerman noted that “Together we DO make a difference!”

Ackerman stated the Relay For Life of Sawyer County promotes the American Cancer Society year-round.   Light the Night for a Cure Ski and Snowshoe event at the 00 Trailhead in February kicked off the 2023 Campaign.   Other events included participation in the Musky Fest Parade, a cookout at Lynn’s Custom Meats & Catering and participating at the Hayward Lions Oktoberfest.  Team Wild held several fundraising events during the summer.   Finally, the community joined together to support and celebrate survivors and caregivers at a booth with drawings and giveaways at Hayward’s Fall Fest in September.

Kirk advised that donations to the Relay For Life of Sawyer County help the American Cancer Society to provide groundbreaking research, educate on prevention and early detection, and be a resource to those battling cancer with answers and support.

Ackerman and Kirk are already planning to kick off the 2024 Campaign with the 5th annual Light the Night for a Cure on Sunday February 4, 2024.    Kirk said Light the Night is a family friendly, fun and moving event.  Details will be available on the Relay For Life of Sawyer County website and in the media.  For information, please email relayforlifeofsawyercounty@gmail.com.
