In 2019, a Lac Courte Oreilles Community Assessment survey identified “childcare/daycare options” as one of the top three priorities for the tribe; substance abuse treatment programs & facilities and housing were among the other two. Tribal institutions and programs had already been exploring the option of adding child care to their facilities, expanding their hours & services to provide wrap around care and the option of building a tribal-operated facility.
A planning committee was formed comprised of individuals from the Planning and Grants Department, LCO Ojibwe College, Income Maintenance/Child Care, Boys and Girls Club, and Head Start. In order to explore all these options, the committee deemed it necessary to develop a focused child care needs survey to capture additional data to see what it is the community actually needs in terms of the type of care, hours of care needed, programming, affordability, location and barriers to accessing care.
The committee is asking that all community members that live, work or attend school on the reservation, and that have parental responsibilities or are planning to start a family in the next year, please take a few moments to respond to these questions. The answers provided are essential for the planning of child care options as well as current program expansion and the ability to apply for project funding.
The survey period will be open until January 31, 2020 and can be completed online or in paper format. Paper copies can be obtained at the Tribal Office reception desk. One survey per household please. All survey responses are confidential.
Participants can enter their name at the end of the survey to be entered in a drawing for (2) $50.00 gift cards to the LCO Country Store or (2) $25.00 gift cards to the LCO Quick Stop.
