The LCO Tribal Governing Board (TGB) today approved a Christmas Gift for all the Elders of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe, to be mailed out by Friday, Dec. 4, in the usual amount of $150. The gift is the same amount as last year and will be mailed out to every tribal member 55 and older.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no pick up of the Christmas check at the Tribal Office. The Accounting Staff is working to make sure all 2,968 checks are in the mail by Friday.
There was some discussion among the TGB members on whether to increase this year’s payout to $200, but after considering the amount which would be nearly $700,000 and uncertainty on whether the Tribe would have those funds in future years, they opted to continue the usual payout. The amount for this year totals $445,200.
TGB member Don Carley wanted it on record that he opposed the $150 payout in favor of increasing to $200. The payout will come from Enbridge funds.
